I think the first priority is picking paint colors. I want to paint everything but seeing as the living room is the the room I walk into in my house, I think it deserves top priority. For this room, I need to find a good color palette.... I like neutrals with big, bold, pops of mustard yellow, turquoise, baby blue and deep violet... I think. I also really want to incorporate chevron into the design and am thinking I may paint it onto the living room walls and find a great rug to add it in with. I've got as few ideas for colors I want but I need to put everything together... Here's some ideas I loved from Pinterest — would love some advice!

I am getting new tan couches from my brother in a few weeks and want to change the room and make it feel new again since I am getting new furniture. I am also thinking of creating a ladder shelf set to accent the room. I just need to figure out where to find an old ladder for cheap and what to make the shelf part out of. I feel like it should be pretty easy. I guess we'll see...
As for the painting, once I choose the colors I need to buy and feel out which ones are paint and which ones are accent pieces and pillows, I will design the chevron stuff. I am thinking of using the brownish tan color in the feather inspiration photo for two side walls and doing chevron stripes with a high gloss and a matte effect. It will be subtle but there. Hopefully that will help save me from hating it in a few months. I'm just not sure about brownish walls... I could also go with a safer, more "me" choice of that canal blue from the samples. I know I won't get sick of that — blue has always been my favorite color. I would follow the same plan for chevron strips with the gloss and matte paints and I actually already have turquoise accents on the window trim in my living room. Hmmm... this could work.
After painting, which I think will cost under $50, my top priorities would be buying a new accent run (I'm aiming for $100) and buying an ottoman. I am thinking of finding an old hand-me-down fluffy one in a consignment store or even making one with batting and then covering it in a bold patterned fabric. Screw neutrals when it comes to this — I have done neutrals for the last few years and need some spice.
If I can spend a few days painting over break , order a new rug and buy/find/sew an ottoman, I feel like I will have accomplished enough to be proud of. If I get the ladder thing done I will feel like a master. I'd like to get more done but I think I am setting my budget at $350 so I'll have to see what I can do... The rest will come.
The next big push will be for the outdoor patio area — I always say I want to fix that up but have not done it for the last two summers in my house... maybe this summer is the summer.
Here's hoping! (I'll take pictures!)
What projects will you be working on this spring?

I'm painting, too! Not my room, but my little boy's room. Shades of grey with accents of red and blue. Using plaids. I'm kinda excited, just like you.
